TRIBUNJOGJA.COM, JOGJA – Following Indonesian Government policy to reduce the subsidized fuel stock, long queues have become common sights in many gas stations. Tuesday afternoon, 26th of August 2014, gas station at the corner of Sentul junction, Taman Siswa Street, Yogyakarta was still crowded by hundreds of motorcyclists trying to get a full tank of Premium.
"The new Premium stock has just arrived," said one of the costumer’s relative waiting near the exit gate. She said, that she has been standing for about fifteen minutes waiting for her husband lining up to buy Premium. Other stated that her son was still half way from being served as she has already been waiting for fifteen minutes.
There were four lines opened to serve Premium costumers and two lines for Pertamax, one for motorcycles and one for cars. Nevertheless, the queue lines were streched out to the gate onto Tamansiswa Street. The manager of the gas station already opened three lines of queueing in each station while it is usually only opened for single line.
This was necesarry to avoid costumers waiting on the street and created traffic jam. Police officers stopped some motorcycles which tried to enter the gas station from Kusumanegara street because the end of the queue was on Tamansiswa street, outside the gas station. The condition inside was already packed with three queue lines for each station.
Among the orderly lining up customers, there was some who bought fuel using big jerrycans usually used for water or petroleum. There was no officer warned this kind of costumer despite many other people still waiting to get their turn.
The security officers seen on the location walked around only to keep the line in order. There were traffic police officers, TNI officers, and private security guards. Despite the long queue and packed gas station, the condition was secured and under controlled. (TRIBUNJOGJA.COM)
